Dr. Olufunmilayo Fawole is the current head of the Department of Epidemilogy and Medical Statistics, College of Medicine, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics, Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. She is also an honorary consultant with the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She is a Fellow of both the Nigerian and West African College of Public Health (FMCPH) and (FWACP). She has a Masters (MSc-MMed) degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. She also has a Fellowship in Medical Education from the FAIMER Institute in South Africa.
Dr. Fawole teaches and undergraduate and postgraduate students several courses in Epidemiology and Research Methods. She supervises the research project of post graduate students, till date she has supervised about 100 students. Dr. Fawole is a researcher of international repute. She has published in both local and international journals. Most of her researches are in the field of sexual and reproductive health including gender based violence, disrespect and abuse, adolescent reproductive health, and STIs/HIV/AIDS. She also does research on malaria prevention. She is a recipient of several awards, including grants from UNIFEM, British Council-DFID, World AIDS Foundation, CCCD and World Health Organization (TDR and MIM) to mention a few. She has several years of experience working on immunization programmes (routine and supplemental), disease surveillance and outbreak investigation. She worked briefly with the World Health Organization as the State coordintor for Oyo State and then later with the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) as Academic coordinator. Presently, she is the University’s focal person to Nigeria Field Epidemiology Programme (NFELTP). She provides technical expertise to the Federal Ministry of Health and some of her implementing partners. She is member of several international and national organizations.
